Small-town Values Oregon Needs
I’m Joseph Steininger, Hubbard’s City Council President and a father of two who believes government should work for families, not against them. I’ve balanced city budgets, secured state grants without raising taxes, and stood alongside first responders when it mattered most. I’m running for House District 18 to protect local control, lower costs for working families, and create an Oregon my son can build a future in and my friends can afford to come home to.
Key Priorities
Public Safety
Public safety is a core responsibility of the government. As a former volunteer firefighter and a city leader who has supported a fully funded police department, I know firsthand what it takes to keep a community safe. In Salem, I will fight to ensure first responders have the training, equipment, and resources they need to protect our communities.
Local Control
Our communities know what’s best for our residents. Decisions about land use, schools, and local priorities should be made as close to home as possible. I will fight to protect local authority, push back against one-size-fits-all mandates, and ensure rural voices are heard in Salem.
Transportation Accountability
We need safe roads and reliable infrastructure, but we also need transparency and responsible spending. I support transportation investments that prioritize safety and maintenance. I oppose unnecessary tax increases without accountability and clear results for taxpayers.
Lowering the Cost of Living
Families across House District 18 are feeling squeezed by rising utility bills, groceries, fuel, and insurance costs. I believe the legislature should focus on lowering everyday costs, not adding to them. Oregon must become affordable again for working families.
Fiscal Discipline & Government Accountability
I’ve balanced budgets locally without raising taxes, and I believe the state should do the same. Government should live within its means, just like families do. I will oppose broad-based tax increases and demand stronger accountability from state agencies.
